Things to Do

Saltwinds is well situated as a base for exploring the entirety of Skye.  The majestic Cuillins are 15 minutes away and provide a challenge.  Or you can take a more leisurely walk through the hills.

Dunvegan Castle is a perfect place to take one of the seal-boats and watch the seals on the neighbouring islands.  They guarantee a full refund if none are spotted!

There are many herons that nest in this area and again this makes interesting viewing.  On a fine day a boat-trip from Elgo in the south of the island will take one to Loch Coruisk, where the Cuillins will surround you and one can even see Mull if the weather permits!

There is an otter hide at Kylrea and at certain times during the season the original old ferry crosses over the Khylrea to the mainland.

Local visitor attractions include the world famous Talisker Distillery and guided tours are daily throughout the season.

If energetic pursuits are required, there are two fantastic local walks.  These include the old Ardtreck lighthouse which includes a picturesque coastal walk.  This is very pretty during the spring when the wild daffodils, bluebells and violets carpet the route.

There is also Talisker Bay, then on through the hills where the scenery is stunning and binoculars are essential!
